The closed beta for hotly anticipated Overwatch 2 will be available from April 26th. While earlier reports gave a rough April window for the beta test to take place, according to Rock Paper Shotgun, Blizzard has now given a confirmed date of April 26th. What’s more, there’s still time to opt-in to the closed beta for Overwatch 2, as sign-ups are still being taken over on the game’s website.
This news is sure to be taken as a step in the right direction by Overwatch players. Many of them have been waiting patiently for updates on Overwatch 2, and given the numerous delays that the game’s development has experienced, this is a sure sign that the second iteration of the much-loved team-based shooter is almost ready to play in full.
The closed beta will focus solely on the game’s PvP experience, namely, its 5v5 mode. Alongside this players will also get to test out a new hero, Sojourn, as well as a range of new maps. Some of the existing maps from Overwatch will remain in Overwatch 2. Heroes Orisa, Doomfist, Bastion and Sombra have been reworked in the beta, which will also provide players with a chance to also try out a new ping system and a brand new ‘Push’ game mode.
The new maps seem to coincide with the new game modes. They include Circuit Royal, a new Escort Map, Midtown, a new Hybrid Map, Toronto and Rome, which are the two new Push Maps.
With this beta focusing on the PvP element of gameplay, it’s safe to assume that Overwatch 2‘s PvE experience will also get its own beta test at some point in the near future. If you’re keen to see what it’s like for yourself, you can still opt-in before the closed beta gets underway on April 26th.
