70% of all Steam players have defeated Margrit The Fell Omen, according to Steam Achievements. This makes it the second most unlocked achievement in all of Elden Ring, just behind getting access to the Roundtable Hold (something which happens after you visit a certain number of grace sites anyway, so it’s not exactly complicated or difficult to get in any meaningful way.)
Margrit the Fell Omen is the first boss of Elden Ring, or at least the first main boss. The first actual boss that most players will face is the fearsome Tree Sentinel, a boss that will absolutely trample anybody who just runs at him. Margrit is at a castle that the game points you towards, and in an area that has two mainline bosses.
They’re just brief tastes of what hellish monsters you’re going to face in the world of Elden Ring, and they’re primers for what exactly is coming your way. They exist to teach you, the player, that enemies have very specific attack patterns and openings for you to use and abuse.
Personally, I beat Margrit The Fell Omen quite easily at level 35. I know others that found him extremely tough, but it wasn’t until after the first area that I really started to feel that traditional Souls difficulty. It’s quite nice to see that people are fighting through the game and actually making it to the first boss, since that could take hours given the size of the world.
