Star Citizen’s being talked about, though not always in the best way. There have been plenty of things that would probably bog down a lesser project, but Star Citizen perseveres.
One of the many things that has been delayed is the release of Star Citizen’s FPS module, Star Marine. Game director Chris Roberts assured that the delay of one component will not affect the other components, though. Citing networking problems in his Letter from the Chairman as one of the main issues they needed to address, the dev team has been working on it for roughly four months now, and it appears that they’ve made progress.
In a recent interview, Roberts comments on the FPS module’s release: “In reality, we’re probably weeks off. We’re shooting to have FPS on the PTU round-about Gamescom or slightly after Gamescom. We’re really talking about people getting to play FPS in a matter of three, four, maybe five weeks.” We really hope this isn’t going to end in another delay, like the last time they said they only needed a few weeks.
In the midst of the vaporware allegations and general unease of backers who want to see where their money went, the Star Citizen appears to be doing the best they can. Cloud Imperium Games refuses to accept the “indefinitely delayed” label that many have stamped on Star Citizen, though their way of dealing with some critics doesn’t look very pretty.
