The DC Comics movie universe as a whole just got a big win recently via The Batman. It made about $260 million dollars worldwide in its premiere weekend, and has continued to do well this week, leading no doubt to a major second weekend. Many have considered that this could be a major momentum builder for DC Comics as their movies haven’t had a big splash in a while in terms of revenue as well as fan/critic approval. But now, one of the movie that was meant to “change the hierarchy of power” in Black Adam…has been delayed.
This comes from none other than The Rock himself, who went onto Instagram to post that his two DC Comics movies via The League of Super-Pets and then Black Adam were delayed. The Super-Pets movie will be released in July now, and Black Adam in October.
This is a big deal for various reasons. Mainly because DC Comics, has been teasing that this year for them was the “year of heroes” as they were intending to release The Flash, The Batman, Aquaman, and of course, Black Adam all this year. And now…that’s in jeopardy.
Why? Because The Flash is currently set to release in early November, but that means that it’ll arrive just two weeks after the new release date for The Rock’s film, so that’s stepping on toes. And they can’t push back The Flash too much because then that’ll interfere with Aquaman who is set to arrive in December. So…yeah, not good.
Granted, the “easy answer” is to move up The Flash or Aquaman to another release date so that the “spread out approach” still works. But whether they’ll actually do that is up for debate. And if they don’t, then either Flash or Aquaman will be pushed back to 2023, and that’ll put the 2023 films in jeopardy, including the already finished “Shazam 2” film.
