It’s the fifth anniversary of Nier: Automata and everyone wants to celebrate–even PUBG. While fans wait for a new game in the series to be announced, dataminers have come across some interesting new cosmetics in both the PC and console versions of PUBG: Battlegrounds. Skins for 2B and 9S from Nier: Automata aren’t the only ones either, with Kaine and Nier himself from Nier Replicant also showing up in the game’s files.
Earlier this week, the PUBG Instagram page began posting some teaser images for an upcoming April Fool’s Day collaboration. Many instantly recognized the hints as 9S’s blindfold from Automata, the popular Nier song Kainé, and a cropped image of one of Replicant‘s wallpapers.

Nier isn’t the only major crossover event happening with PUBG in the near future. The now free-to-play battle royale will be teaming up with cyber-ninja action game Warframe. No date or details have been revealed for this particular crossover quite yet.
On February 23, Square Enix held a Nier: Automata 5th Anniversary Live Stream. Series creator Yoko Taro, producer Yosuke Saito, composer Keiichi Okabe, and PlatinumGames’ Takahisa Taura participated in the event, reminiscing on the past five years since the game’s release and giving some hints about what fans of the game can expect in the future. During the stream, a Nier anime series was announced along with a teaser trailer. The anime series will be produced by anime production and distribution company Aniplex, who also worked on video game anime adaptations for Ace Attorney and Persona 5.
