Fallout fans will probably recall how bottle caps have been used as currency ever since the first game in the series, with Nuka-Cola bottle caps being the most well-known. Sunset Sarsaparilla bottle caps were introduced in Fallout: New Vegas to be used alongside the Nuka-Cola caps.
One fan decided to try his luck with pre-ordering the latest installment, Fallout 4, using bottle caps. Over 2,000 of them. Imgur user GatorMacheteJr had started collecting bottle caps because he was a big fan of Fallout 3, and what we see here is nearly 8 years’ worth of caps, or as GatorMacheteJr put it, his “life’s savings.”
With the parcel came a letter, explaining his decision to ship all this currency to the Bethesda office. He acknowledges that the conversion rate from bottle caps to US Dollars might be a bit off, or that bottle caps might not be accepted as payment. We honestly think he might have overpaid for the game, based on several possible conversion rates that other fans have proposed. “I’m hoping if this post gets popular enough their PR department will be too nervous to turn me down,” says GatorMacheteJr in his post. “[H]ere’s hoping that 7.5 years’ worth of bottle cap hoarding doesn’t just end up in the Bethesda trash can.” We hope so, too. For all we know, this could end up as an easter egg in the game.
Fallout 4 will be out for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on November 10, 2015.
