Pure Xbox has revealed the existence of a new Transformers game, about a year after Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. Introducing Transformers: Devastation.
Transformers: Devastation features a cel-shaded style, but if you look a little closer, a very particular aesthetic emerges as well. Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron, Devastator, and others are depicted in their G1 incarnations, aka how they appeared in the original 1984-1987 cartoon by Marvel Productions and Sunbow Productions.
This choice of scenario is particularly interesting because for the past few years, Transformers games have been set in either the the War for Cybertron continuity, or as tie-ins for the recent films or cartoons. Without a doubt, the G1 version of the Transformers is seminal, but many gamers and Transformers fans today are unfamiliar with it.
Details on this upcoming game are sparse. What has been confirmed is that the game is published by the current Transformers games licensee, Activision, and that it will be coming to Xbox 360. If it will release on Xbox 360, of course, it can also come out on Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, and PC.
Based on the title, the famous Decepticon combiner Devastator may be central to the plot. If this is the case, Devastator’s G1 rivals, the Dinobots, as well as Omega Supreme, are likely to make an appearance as well.
