Yesterday, Japanese newspaper Nikkei reported that Nintendo's NX platform may run on Google's Android operating system.
Today however, Nintendo officially denied the rumours to the Wall Street Journal. “There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX,” a spokesman said.
Nikkei's report cited sources with knowledge the system's development who said Nintendo wanted to use Android in order to tap into the large number of game developers already using the platform.
It's possible Nintendo briefly considered the option before discarding it but it seems Google's OS and NX will not overlap in any way.
Not much is known about NX, which will be revealed in 2016, but Nintendo hopes to end region locking on the system and it will support the replacement for the Club Nintendo reward scheme. We also know that it will not be a home console/handheld hybrid as some speculation suggested.
