While The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be a massive RPG with multiple regions but developer CD Projekt RED says exploring this world will be seamless without loading screens.
CD Projekt RED's Jonas Mattsson told GameSpot it's possible to travel the world without using fast travel with the exception of a single location over water and far removed from the rest of the game world.
“Exactly. Kaer Morhen [the islands off the coast]. That’s a separate small level as well there," Mattsson said. "But on the full open world, there’s no loading time. You can travel and roam around as you wish.”
Specifically referring to the issue of loading screens, Mattsson commented:
“No, there’s no loading times. Only when you actually start the game, when [you] die and load the game, or when you fast travel. That fast travel loading time depends on how far you have to travel of course. If you just fast travel a little bit, it’s a really short loading time.
“For us, that was really important. I think we achieved that because, as you said, just going in and out of a building, there’s no loading time. Nothing. It’s just creates this really nice experience.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out May 19th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game's TV ad was released last week, and you can check it out here.
