Activision and Treyarch have revealed the official trailer and scenario for Call of Duty Black Ops 3.
The game is set in 2060, 35 years after Black Ops 2. In this future, air defense has been rendered useless, thanks to a technology called Directed Energy Air Defense. Battles are won on the ground, and foot soldiers are the most important military asset in the world.
Your black ops team is tasked with investigating a CIA station in Singapore, when a military catastrophe occurs: a massive leak of military clandestine information. Activision’s press materials allude to Edward Snowden, but in this case, the data is more targeted and the effect more immediate. Militaries around the world are targeted and rendered vulnerable, creating a world of unstable and borderline failed states.
The leaker, Taylor, makes his first impact in Egypt, where the NRC gains territory from the state quickly, and civilian casualties start rising.
Much like Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, the black ops team has new tech turning them into supersoldiers, but they’re not exosuits. Instead, you use the DNI, or Direct Neural Interface, which give you complete control over your physiology, and lets you integrate with computer systems. You can also get one-off powers from Cyber Cores, including immolation (fire powers), and remote hijack (take control of drones and other tech via remote control).
The trailer shows a massive drone/robot army to face down, but no whiff of the people behind them. You can watch the trailer above and check out the latest screenshots below. Call of Duty Black Ops 3 is coming to Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 6, with a multiplayer beta you can opt into if you preorder.
