There is reason to believe that famed director Spike Lee is involved in the production of NBA 2K16. They even know the three players who will make the cover.
Stephen Curry of Golden State, James Harden of Houston and Kevin Durant of Oklahoma City are set to tell fans in their respective Instagram accounts that they are starring in the new Spike Lee joint, as seen in this picture exclusively obtained by Polygon.
AS for Lee himself, it was reported that he had a video game related project in San Francisco, and was there for a Knicks shootaround. 2K Games and Visual Concepts happen to also be located in nearby Novato.
Spike Lee is one of the more prominent black directors in Hollywood. His films directly address political issues such as race, the mass media. poverty, and more. Spike also loves basketball and the NBA. He is famous for having directed and starred in a series of Air Jordan commercials, as well as figuring prominently in Knicks basketball games in the 90s.
If the rumor is true, Spike could end up releasing a video game before another film director with an interest in the field, Guillermo Del ToroFor Spike, this is probably less about games and more about basketball. Spike has made both fictional (He Got Game) and documentary (Kobe Doin’Work) basketball films, so it would be fun to see if he brought either a fictional or realistic narrative to NBA 2K16.
