Deep Down is a game that has gone through seeming development hell. It started off as a simple technology demo, but soon made the transition into being developed as a real game, exclusively for Sony's Playstation 4 console. This transition may have been a bit harder than developer Capcom originally anticipated, as the studio's game producer Yoshinoro Ono recently spoke to 4Gamer:
“It looks like Deep Down will take just a little longer. We’re thinking about showing something that looks completely different from what previously shown, although it might be a while from now.
“The ideas we have for the game is much larger now compared to when we first announced it. Rather, the ideas we had before might not have been good enough. Looking back at the previous ideas we had, we were concerned about not being able to capture an audience as we would’ve liked.
“It was decided to give it more time so that we can further enhance it.”
The premise for Deep Down is, of course, a fan-favorite. Gamers love swords, shields, magic and dragons. Capcom should take as much time as they need to make Deep Down a home run, because it has the capacity to be one.
