Rise of the Tomb Raider continues to build on top of the original IP, as Crystal Dynamics has explained they have eschewed puzzles based on logic for those based on physics, including nested physics.
Puzzles are a cornerstone of the franchise from the previous timeline, and with this new game, Crystal Dynamics promises they have put a lot more thought and planning into them. One of the undesirable parts of the original trilogy’s legacy is how arbitrary those logic puzzles could get. These won’t be in the new game.
Instead, the game’s puzzles will be operating on real life systems, including but not exclusively based on physics. These puzzles are based on cause and effect, and will make you want to explore and look around the game world more.
One specific example they shared were nested puzzles, which do trace back from the original games. You may need to follow several steps, or go through multiple sides of a room, to solve some of these puzzles.
These puzzles will take more time to solve, but Crystal Dynamics hopes the extra effort will make unlocking them that much more satisfying.
Rise of the Tomb Raider will be launched exclusively on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. What kinds of puzzles would you like to solve in the game? Share your ideas with us in the comments.
