Two years after being announced, Sony has unveiled a new trailer for Until Dawn.
Given the extended period without updates, Supermassive Games saw it fit to get straight to the action. The trailer shows off the straight-out-of-a-teen-horror-movie premise, with lead character Sam giving chase to a mysterious masked assailant.
Sam can choose certain QTE actions to facilitate her escape, and much like Beyond: Two Souls or Heavy Rain, an action leads to a predetermined outcome.
At the end of the trailer, Sam makes the wrong choice, and as a result, gets dragged away. Unfortunately, this attempt at a dramatic flourish is a clear misfire, following the recent attention brought to harassment and violence against women, particularly in the gaming community.
As you can see in this reddit, fans are repulsed, not excited, for the title. It has definitely received a graphical upgrade, thanks to a switch to the Umbra3 engine to optimize for its new platform, the PS4. However, that is not what people will be talking about and remember when they bring up this trailer.
