Borderlands 2 is currently in development at Gearbox Software. That’s according to Eurogamer, which picked up the scoop from an inside source which also says that 2K Games is set to publish it. The publisher is expected to make an announcement soon.
A source close to the game informed them that the first person shooter is being developed for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and will be released next year.
Speaking to the press awhile back, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford said that the studio had every intention of revisiting the Borderlands setting after work on Duke Nukem Forever had been completed.
“I can tell you that myself and everyone at Gearbox LOVES Borderlands and we have been absolutely thrilled at the reception it’s gotten from our customers and the fact that it’s sold over four million units now,” he said in an interview with Eurogamer.
“So you can see that we supported the game like mad with lots of great DLC and you can imagine that we’re going to want to do a lot of things with Borderlands in the future.”
Here’s hoping that the sequel will, at the very least, use Valve’s Steamworks for its multiplayer implementation instead of Gamespy Arcade.
