Sony has announced that the PlayStation 4 was the best selling console in the US for October, on the back on the latest NPD data.
The news comes just a day after Microsoft announced soaring Xbox One sales following a price cut for the system, and confirmed that the Xbox One has outsold the PS4 in the US for the last two weeks. Microsoft also revealed that they have now shipped 10 million Xbox One systems.

The NPD took a moment in its report to note that sales of both the PS4 and Xbox One since launch are well ahead of the PS3 and Xbox 360 during their first year on the market.
“October 2014 marks the first 12 months of sales for the Xbox One and PS4; and after the first year, these consoles have had a great start as cumulative sales are currently over 70% higher than the combined first year totals of Xbox 360 and PS3,” the NPD Group’s Liam Callahan said.
“Hardware sales of eighth generation consoles represent close to 80% of dollar sales this month driving overall consoles sales to increase by 186% over October 2013.”
However, the NPD also reported that sales of software units have fallen by 42% compared to October 2013. The best selling games for the month were NBA 2K15, Super Smash Bros, and The Evil Within.
To date, over 10 million PS4s have been sold to consumers, while Microsoft has stuck to Xbox One shipment figures.
