BioWare has revealed some of the project leads for the next Mass Effect game, including lead writer Chris Shlerf, whose last project was 343 Industries' Halo 4.
Shlerf joined the team in November 2013, and has needed to keep his involvement secret until today's official announcement. On the BioWare Blog, he wrote "Every day is a revelation and every day I get to play in a new corner of the universe. To be able to look three steps ahead to, ‘Where does this take us and how does it add to the way we look at the Mass Effect trilogy?’ You couldn’t ask for a better playground."
Halo 4 arguably had the best, or at least most human, story of any game in the series as Master Chief was contronted with the impending loss of Cortana, something which should bode well for the next Mass Effect.
"As a writer, I write for characters," Schlerf remarked. "To me, it’s always about what makes my characters tick and what stories I can tell through those characters that will actually engage people about their own lives. It provides a mirror to that player’s experience [so that they are] not just sitting back in an armchair."
Not much is known about the next Mass Effect, but BioWare has confirmed that it will not revolve around Commander Shepard like the original trilogy.
Halo fans will have another chance to check out Schlerf's work when the Master Chief Collection launches for Xbox One next week. BioWare has suggested that Mass Effect 1-3 may be ported to PS4 and Xbox One.
