Cultural critic Anita Sarkeesian has faced down an endless barrage of harassment, slander, and violent threats to her well-being in the wake of releasing a series of videos about the depiction of women in video games.
Last month, Sarkeesian attended the XOXO Festival in Portland, where she addressed the harassment she and her supporters faced, and continue to deal with on an everyday basis. Today, the festival’s organizers posted the video of her talk in its entirety.
Running at 16 minutes in length, Sarkeesian talks about the violent reactions that she and her supporters have experienced, including a variety of bizarre conspiracy theories doctored to slander her.
She ends her talk with a message on how best to support women online: "One of the most radical things you can do is to actually believe women when they talk about their experiences.”
