Bioware has revealed the nuances of Dragon Age 3: Inquisition’s character creator, with a new trailer.
Customization options are impressively broad, but they do have their limits. For example, things like horns, hair, and beards have very specific choices, and little room to modify anything, save colors.
There are three ways to customize things. There is the customary slider, and color wheel. There are also square sliders for facial features. For these, you move a pointer across two axes, to change shape, angles, etc. You can move the camera angle while using these square sliders to see how the changes affect your character’s shape from all angles.
While it is not that much more sophisticated, than, say, Create-A-Sim, Inquisition’s character creator gives players a lot to work with. Bioware has also given fans enough leeway so that players have freedom to make characters that are not conventionally attractive. Whatever face you come up with, they will still be completely symmetrical, so under those standards they will always look good.
Lastly, Bioware referenced research on actual human faces and bodily features, so if you are lucky, you may be able to make a reasonable facsimile of yourself in game if that’s what you wanted.
Dragon Age 3: Inquisition will be available on November 18 for Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
