Atari has revealed on PAX Prime that they are releasing new titles in the Alone in the Dark and Haunted House series, named Alone in the Dark: Illumination and Haunted House: Cryptic Graves, respectively. Both games are coming to Windows in Fall 2014.
The original Alone in the Dark was released in 1992 for DOS, and is considered a groundbreaking title in the genre. The last game in this series was released in 2008. The Haunted House remake comes even more out of left field, with the original game releasing in 1982 for the Atari 2600, although it also received a modern day port in 2010. These new games will not be remakes or reboots, but completely new games.
Alone in the Dark: Illumination is a mission based game, with multiplayer and a new illumination mechanic. You can choose between four classes: Hunter, Witcher, Engineer, or Priest – and take on nasties in dynamic environments , to clean the town of its mysterious curse of Darkness. This game is being developed by a new studio, Pure FPS.
Haunted House: Cryptic Graves is a first person perspective adventure horror game, with a paranormal activity theme. Your character will have psychic abiltiies, and will talk to the dead to solve puzzles, purge evil creatures and avoid traps. This game is being developed by Dreampainters, who previously worked on critically acclaimed horror gameAnna.
