Super Smash Bros Weekly Round-Up: Fighting Teams, Grinding For Coins, Betting, And More

August 29, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

A lot of great 3DS features were revealed this week, including Spectator Mode and Classic mode

This week, Sakurai put the spotlight on Super Smash Bros for the 3DS. Most of the Miiverse posts were about features exclusive to the 3DS version, and used 3DS screenshots.

On Monday, Classic Mode was revealed. You take on multiple stages on the road to a climactic final battle. You can put more gold into the Fiend’s Scale, making each stage harder, and the rewards bigger and better. You get to choose which stage to go to next, and add gold for higher difficulty at every step of the way. Classic Mode is a great way to grind for cash, if you’re good, that is.

On Tuesday, Sakurai revealed that Spectator Mode will also be in the 3DS version. You can watch players around the world, check out their stats, and make bets with in-game gold. 1st and 2nd players get prizes to use in four player, and spectators can use the gold they win on Bonus Chances.

On Wednesday, Sakurai shared the panels in Challenges mode. Clearing a challenge unlocks a panel. Each unlocked panel also unlocks pictures related to the challenge you beat, and gives you hints in unlocking more panels adjacent to it. The 3DS version will have easier challenges than the Wii U version.

On Thursday, the customization screen was revealed. You can see in the screenshot that among the customizable options are equipment, specials, headgear, outfit, and powers. Sakurai reminds us that you will want to set your powers before you enter Smash Run.

Sakurai capped it off today with a screenshot from the Wii U version, showing off the fighting teams. These teams are autogenerated, with some data derived from the Miis in your system, and they will attack you in large numbers. The screenshot also reveals the diversity in screen tones these teams will have, as well as the uniforms these teams will have.

Super Smash Bros will be released on the Nintendo 3DS this October 3, and this holiday 2014 on Wii U.
