Carbine Studios’ plan to release a updates or content drops for WildStar on a monthly basis has met some complications for reasons we can only guess at. As such, the game will no longer have monthly content updates, which were pretty damn ambitious to begin with.
Speaking in an interview with MMORPG Life at Gamescom last week, Carbine’s Senior Game Designer Megan Starks explained that the game’s next update, titled “The Defile” would onlyt release within the next few months rather than on the first of September, as players were hoping it would, given the release timeframe of the previous content drops for the game.
“One of the things we wanted to do with our post launch schedule was to make sure we were covering all different areas of the game. Sometimes we like to put out a whole new zone that has solo, small group and large group content, and sometimes we would like to put out an arena, or battleground, or dungeon with raids coming up in the future and things like that, “she said.
“One of our goals with the defile was to add post-launch content for post-cap stuff, as part of our Elder game. We wanted to expand onto the area available for players in the world,” said Starks of The Defile.
Starks further explained that instead of hitting a hard deadline with the release of the new content, the studio wants to make sure the quality is there too—hence the change in the game’s content release schedule.
There’s no doubt that this will come as a disappointment to WildStar players, but the options available are pretty limited: either release the content now in an unfinished, unpolished state, or wait a few months for the proper experience.
It remains to be seen whether the delay in the content drops will affect the game’s subscription base, which already appears to be dwindling. With any luck, its release will spur players back into the game.
