Dreamfall Chapters has been officially announced for the PlayStation 4 through the PlayStation Blog by its developers, Red Thread Games.
The game, which was first announced for the PC in December 2012, underwent a lengthy Kickstarter campaign that saw the game amass over $1.5 million in pledges, surpassing its initial goal of $850k.
Described as a 3D adventure game, Dreamfall Chapters takes the player across the twin worlds of Stark and Arcadia; from a futuristic cyberpunk vision of our world, to a realm of magic and beauty.
The game is set to continue the story that began in the critically acclaimed adventures The Longest Journey, and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.
“Dreamfall Chapters is a game about choice and consequence, about how the actions you take and the decisions you make — no matter how small or seemingly insignificant — touch the people around us, and how our lives in turn are shaped by the choices made by others,” reads the blog post.
The protagonist of the game is once again Zoë Castillo, who lives in a European cyberpunk world set two centuries in the future.
According to the Ragnar Tørnquist, the game’s Creative Director, the main conflict in the game revolves around a mysterious dream disease which threatens to destroy both Stark and Arcadia.
"We’re storytellers, and we believe video games are the ultimate medium for telling engaging stories," says Tørnquist. "We want the story to be a fundamental and integral part of the gameplay, rather than just the backdrop. Through exploration, discovery and dialogue, through choices and actions, we want our players to connect emotionally with our worlds and characters."
The game is set for release this November.
