Bots and hackers are a growing problem in Carbine’s newly released massively multiplayer online RPG, WildStar. They threaten the game’s economy by flooding it with cheap resources and spam legitimate players of the game with a non-stop barrage of mail, messages, and invites that spoil an otherwise pristine experience.
Players can help to catch and get Carbine to ban these bots by reporting them whenever they’re spotted, but the whole process of reporting can be an incredibly tedious process. To that end, a modder going by JRule4 has put together a mod called BotZapper, which detects and reports bots that teleport around the map and gather resources—thereby stealing them from players who are in the process of extracting these nodes, as players often do.
Here’s what BotZapper does:
1. Detects Bots
2. Prompts user to report bot.
3. Automatically fills out ticket information with buffs/debuffs, time, and position for each time the addon saw the player breaking the rules.
And here’s how it works:
It watches nearby players around you. If they're moving too fast too often, then they gain "suspicion" from the addon. Once they reach a certain amount of suspicion it will prompt the player that it think that it found a bot. Before reporting, the addon will show you what evidence it has found against a specific player. You can choose to report, gather more evidence, or ignore the player completely. When a player is reported by BotZapper, it will be ignored again for the rest of the session.
