Nearly 30 years after it's launch, the original Super Mario Bros. continues to be the focus of a lot of attention, especially among the speedrunning community. Speedrunner Blubbler has set a new clear record of 4:57.69, beating the previous record of 4:58.09 by mere fractions of a second.
The rules of this particular run were that an unmodded copy of the game had to be played on actual NES hardware and that any method to get to the end of World 8 could be used. This means that warp zones were allowed as were any in-game exploits, such as the trick at the 1:58 mark where Blubbler entered the 4-2 warp zone without climbing the vine. For comparison, the record for a full run of the game without using warps is 19:12, held by andrewg.
Think you can best this feat of platforming perfection?
