Crescent Moon Games wants to help you reconnect with Mother Earth in the studio's latest game, The Deer God. This Kickstarter project places you in the role of a hunter who has been transformed into a deer and must traverse a randomly generated side-scrolling world to gain wisdom and power from the animals. The base goal is to earn $26,000 by July 23, which will guarantee Windows, Mac, and Linux versions of the game. Beyond that are strectch goals for Ouya, Wii U, PS Vita, and PS4 versions, plus an Oculus Rift-compatible build at $150K.
The pixel aesthetic takes direct inspiration from Capybara Games' Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, with a little bit of added 3D depth. Other inspirations include Metroid, Zelda, Blaster Master, Kid Icarus, Ecco the Dolphin, Joust, and the simple joys of spending time in the great outdoors. What this means for The Deer God is that you'll explore a non-linear environment, acquire abilities to access new areas, and admire the beautiful atmosphere. You may even find a young doe with whom you can mate!
Other features include a reincarnation system, in which death results in your starting over as a fawn or possibly some other creature, and karma, which affects your favor with the titual Deer God. There's also a planned co-op mode, though not much has been discussed about it yet.
The Deer God is currently scheduled for a January 2015 release. Support the Kickstarter if you desire it on your platform of choice.
