We have new information for you regarding Maxis’ long awaited The Sims 4. This is all coming from one intrepid, loyal source.
First, there is apparent confirmation that the game is going to get a Create A Sim demo. The confirmation is somewhat sketchy; the source is believed to be, but not confirmed, a legitimate EA Twitter account, and even if this were the case, we are basing this off of a very vague @ reply to a question about a demo. And, it’s translated from Brazilian.
Still, a Create a Sim demo could be an enticing draw for longtime fans (some of whom are possibly feeling burned from the last SimCity), if they do it right. This could also rule out the possibility that the game is going to be free to play, since it just wouldn’t make sense to have both on one game.
Our second piece of info has a far more legitimate source: Maxis Producer Graham Nardone. Graham confirms that mods will have their own folder in the game. This means a player would easily be able to add their or someone else’s mod files into their games.
Graham also explains what it would take to build a Sims town with only your Sims. The game always tried to make Sims from an editable list first, before it starts generating them randomly. You will always be able to edit some of those Sims out, so you could, in theory, engineer it so it always only is your Sims. The only clincher is Graham hasn’t tried it yet, and it sounds like the devs haven’t ,either.
Lastly, we have some new information on two items for the game, the Cow Plants and Rockets.
Cow Plants remain carnivorous, and this time a little more twisted. It can devour your houseguests’ emotional states along with their bodies. It can then create an essence from them you can swallow later. It’s such a b-movie cliché.
The Rocket is actually tied up to a potential career; becoming an astronaut! This seems to be inspired by recent real life developments in space exploration. For those who don’t know, when the US gov’t decided to ramp down their NASA program, space exploration initiatives from the public increased, with an especially collaborative flavor. I think this means not only will you be doing your astronaut stuff outside NASA’s confines, but you could be meeting up with fellow astronauts a lot! Oh yeah, and there’s stuff about leaving earth’s atmosphere and traveling to the moon and all that.
The Sims 4 is coming to Windows on September 2, and Mac on an unannounced date.
