J.K. Rowling is planning to launch a brand new addition to the Harry Potter universe, in the form of an online game. It shouldn't however be mistaken for an MMORPG until further information surfaces.
Scant information is available about the game at the moment, but the announcement of a mysterious site, Pottermore.com, is sparking no small amount of excitement among the series' fans.
The site is currently online with a "coming soon" message and a countdown to the launch of a YouTube video, and speculation suggests that the site will serve as a launch pad for an ARG, or Alternate Reality Game.
Two British newspapers—The Independent, and The Times of London—reported that they mistakenly received a memo from the company marketing the website that describe Pottermore as "a sophisticated online game that contains clues to prizes that are hidden in the real world."
Meanwhile, The Atlantic reports that the company running the operation is in charge of marketing videogames like LittleBigPlanet 2.
It remains to be seen what Pottermore will offer, but it shouldn't be too long before we find out exactly what it is.
