PC players won't be getting their hands on Bungie's first multiplatform title Destiny when it comes on September 9th. In an interview with Eurogamer, the developers talk about how releasing a PC version of the game would be challenging and risky since they already have their hands full with four other platforms.
"The console SKUs are really important for us and that's what we're focusing on… We're doing it all internally ourselves. That's a huge endeavour. That's not something we've ever done before," design lead Lars Bakken told the website. It's worth noting that Bungie isn't outsourcing development for various ports of the game. The studio is developing each version of the game in-house.
COO Pete Parsons also cited the challenges and risks of adding another platform into the mic. He noted how Bungie has been a one platform developer for the longest so time, so Destiny is ambitious as it is with four platforms slated for release.
Additionally, one of the other reasons involved the complexity of connecting all of the platforms into one shared world. "It is not nearly as simple as you think. It is one central world no matter what the platform, and so that requires lots of intensive thought," Parsons said.
We recently reported that the beta launch date for the game will be revealed soon. A gameplay video was also released that featured new classes.
Destiny is set for release on September 9th for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
