There are no shortages of new television series and movies coming out into the marketplace. However, there has been a big resurgence in making adaptations from video game source material. It’s not always been the most successful transition, but after the likes of the Marvel cinematic universe becoming as big as it is right now, there could be a new incentive in making some truly remarkable adaptations from video games as well. Now it looks like a new rumor is circulating online that suggests Netflix might have another big IP in the works.
As mentioned, a few video game adaptations are being turned into movies and television series. Off the top of my head you have Uncharted, The Last of Us, Sonic The Hedgehog, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, and Halo, all currently coming out into a cinematic universe. This is of course combining both television series along with movies, but we might be able to add one more adaptation into the mix and it’s from Bethesda’s iconic franchise.
If the rumor is believed to be true, we might see The Elder Scrolls become adapted into a Netflix series. This would go alongside the likes of other fantasy series of theirs such as The Witcher. However, there is no confirmation that this series is actually in the works. All we know so far is that industry insider, Daniel Richtman, stated that Netflix is working on a show based on The Elder Scrolls franchise.
We don’t know if there are any games in particular that they would adapt or if there is a new storyline to be told. After all, The Elder Scrolls is a pretty long-running video game franchise, and it’s centered around countless years of lore material. While we wait to see if this adaptation is confirmed, we do know that Bethesda is working on The Elder Scrolls VI which is slated to come out after their upcoming release of Starfield. Both games are still relatively unknown at this point, so we very well may find out information about this rumored Netflix production before we get information about The Elder Scrolls VI.
