The latest Bungie Mail Sack has revealed new details on the cities you'll explore in Destiny and the game's beta. MoreConsole has a full analysis of the Mail Sack in this video.
Given the fact that there is one safe city in Destiny, Bungie were asked whether there would be other, unsafe cities to discover to which the developer replied that there are many – some buried beneath the sand, others covered in jungle, and some not of human creation – regardless of the type of city, all of them are hostile enviroments.
The studio was then asked about the Destiny GDC video and the extent to which fans would have access to those customisation options. Bungie said that they're creating a wealth of armour which will allow players to create a guardian in your own images even if some of the tools shown at GDC were developer exclusive. Destiny's presentation at GDC focused mainly on race, class, and gear but there are many other means of changing the way you look.
One fan wanted to know what to do if they find themselves massively outnumbered and outgunned and Bungie said their advice, using the example of the ruins found in Old Russia, would be to save your lights until you really need them but the developers added that this would be a challenge. Using your lights will call down the traveller but this impressive attack is costly and should be used wisely. If you have no light to use, heavy ammo might just get you through.
They said that there are many ways to take on aliens in Destiny and they hope your favourite move changes from moment to moment.
Bungie then said that if you choose to cancel your pre-order and pre-order again on a different console, you won't need to re-apply to the beta as the retailer code you receive will work on any of the game's launch platforms, even if you've already redeemed it. Based on the studio's comments, it seems a beta launch date may be announced soon.
The developers also commented that "when it comes to our game, we rarely sit back. We're coming for you," implying that they'll be heavily involved in the beta.
Following news yesterday that long-time Bungie composer Marty O'Donnell was fired "without cause," studio COO Pete Parsons told Eurogamer that Destiny is "close to shipping", and O'Donnell's music remains in the game. Parsons added:
"I think the Bungie fanbase is going to look forward to hearing Marty's music, Mike Salvatori's music, C. Paul's music and Paul McCartney's music in the game. That's going to be exciting for people. It's going to be a great, fantastic experience.
"I believe people will be transported not just by the activities and the stories within the Destiny universe but by the sights and the wonderful sounds and music. We have a fantastic team. We're pretty close to shipping. There's a lot of polish left to do, lots of tweaking and tuning, but a lot is already complete."
Destiny is set for release on September 9th for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
