In a new report from Joystiq, evidence has emerged that Bethesda will be pursuing new projects related to Nuka Cola, the fictional parody soda from Fallout that has become an iconic feature in the series' identity. The publishing giant has filed three trademarks for Nuka Cola, relating to merchandise, online gaming, and mobile software. The filings were based on "intent to use", meaning for use in future projects (as opposed to protecting an existing use).
So what will come of these trademark filings? Probably more merchandise. In the past several months, Bethesda has been making a focused effort to pump out new Fallout items in their store, churning out collections of bobbleheads, clothing, and accessories on the regular. But since the other two filings deal with mobile software and online games, there's a chance they have bigger things in store as well. Me, I would makeout with a Radroach to get the chance to drink a real Nuka Cola, and have always hoped Bethesda would pair up with Coca Cola to make it happen. I spent many hours playing Fallout 3 while sipping either bottles of imported Mexican Coke and Mountain Dew Voltage (Quantum!) and I bet others have done the same. In general I'd probably snap up anything Nuka Cola related, because I'm as addicted to unique sodas as I am Fallout itself. Hell, I named my cat Nuka because his eyes are Quantum-blue. What I'm saying is, I need this Bethesda. Make it happen.
