Massive Entertainment, the studio behind Ubisoft's upcoming shooter Tom Clancy's The Division, has called Watch_Dogs' delay "tremendously important."
Studio head David Polfeldt told Examiner:
"It's tremendously important for us as a developer studio, to know that the owner and the publisher are ready to take that hit, and [the Watch_Dogs delay] was a massive hit.
"I think their shares fell 25 per cent on the day it was announced it was being delayed. It takes so much courage to live through that day and still think that was a good decision. So for us in the development [side of things], that's an important message that ultimately the management will back up the goals that we have, which is the game has to be great… If there is a choice between time and quality, then quality will win."
Watch_Dogs was originally due to be released last November but was pushed back to May 27th on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Ubisoft has also delayed the Wii U version of Watch_Dogs to an unspecified date.
The Division does not currently have a confirmed release date but is still listed as a 2014 launch by Ubisoft who yesterday dated their E3 press conference and we'll likely see more of the game then. The Division was one of the biggest surprises of E3 last year and hopefully Ubisoft have similar announcements planned for this year's show, Michel Ancel yesterday teased Beyond Good & Evil 2 while Far Cry 4 is believed to be in development.
As always, there'll be more Assassin's Creed.
