Drinkbox Studios, the developers behind Guacamelee, have revealed their latest game concept: touch control Metroidvania Severed, planned for mobile.
Much like the lead character, the game design mishmashes different elements. At its very core, you accumulate weapons from enemies the more you progress in the game. You actually pick up your enemies’ limbs, carapaces, skulls, shells, etc, to wear as armor.
The game is nonlinear, so rather than mastering speedruns, you’ll find yourself seeking out the most powerful builds and how to get to them the fastest. Combat is gesture based, with enemies giving out tells for when you can best hit them. There will also be a magic system.
So, as indicated above, the game is touch based and is being planned for mobile platforms. However, Drinkbox has revealed they are willing to investigate bringing the game to platforms with touchscreens, like Wii U, Vita, and 3DS. They are also willing to look at motion-based platforms like Playstation Move, Kinect, and Project Morpheus. I do wonder if other unmentioned options, such as Dualshock 4’s touchpad, Wii Remote Plus, and Windows 8’s Universal App Store (bringing Surface and Windows phones in in one fell swoop) are in consideration, but of course, we will have to wait it out to find out.
As for now, what we know for sure is the game is coming next year, and it’s looking really good at the moment. You can check out the announce trailer below.
