Mass Effect 4 Developers Create Three Hours of ‘Wow’ Moments in a Week

April 8, 2014 by Stephen Daly

BioWare Montreal is also seeking a QA manager to work on the game.

Mass Effect 4 developers at BioWare Montreal have produced three hours worth of "WOWOMG" moments in the space of a single week according to producer Michael Gamble.

On Twitter, Gamble commented:

We gave the Mass Effect team a week, without restriction, to prototype new ideas. Watching 3 hours worth of WOWOMG now.

— Michael Gamble (@GambleMike) April 7, 2014

It's still early days for the game and Gamble hasn't revealed details of what the development team has come up with but BioWare is still hiring for the next Mass Effect. The studio's director of quality assurance Tulay McNally is seeking an experienced QA manager to work on the game:

I'm looking for an experienced QA Manager to join BioWare Montreal, to work on the next Mass Effect with me. Apply n…http://t.co/OcbDWZUzUY

The job description provided through the link is an old one, the PS3 and Xbox 360 are referred to as "next-gen" while it's stated that BioWare is working on 2012's Mass Effect 3, not ME4, but presumably the criteria for the role are the same as they where then. Duties for the QA manager include:

  • Evaluation and improvement of QA/Dev team relationship Drive processes that continue to increase effectiveness and communication between QA and other departments
  • Risk Management for Game Team and for QA
  • QA owner of franchise vision, QA skill evaluation and assist with career development within team
  • Driver of BioWare culture and execution of BioWare vision for QA

Mass Effect 4 does not have an official name yet but BioWare has confirmed it almost certainly won't be called that, as giving the game that title would imply that the game is a continuation of Commander Shepard's story – Shepard and his/her allies will not be returning for the game.

Studio director Yannick Roy says Mass Effect 4 will be "friendly both to old fans and to newcomers" with executive producer Casey Hudson calling it "fresh and new". Motion capture for the game was announced in January when Gamble said "amazing" new level environments had been introduced. Last November saw BioWare developers tweet off-screen images and concept art for the game.

No gameplay footage or even cinematic trailers for the title have been released to date and it's unknown when the next Mass Effect will be released or on what platforms but presumably the game is coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Hopefully, we'll get our first proper glimpse and more information at E3.

BioWare is also currently developing Dragon Age: Inquisition and you can check out the latest screenshot of that game here.
