Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies Announced

March 28, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Company of Heroes 2 gets a standalone multiplayer add-on.

Relic Studios has revealed Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies today at the Rezzed event taking place in the UK. This standalone title will not require COH2 and will instead be, as I just wrote—standalone. It’s expected to enter beta in June and cost as low as $13, providing players with a cheap way to enter the game’s multiplayer community.

Developed primarily as a multiplayer game, The Western Front Armies takes place on the Western Front, which was first introduced in the original game and introduces two factions: the US Army and the German Oberkommando West.

Like their Eastern Front counterparts, the armies will come with a raft of tactical gameplay options, new infantry, team weapons, vehicles, abilities and upgrades and fight across eight multiplayer maps set on the Western Front. All Company of Heroes 2 players can play across the original game's 31 maps and 1000+ community maps in auto-match multiplayer, regardless of what content they own, even if they only buy The Western Front Armies.

“We know how much fans love the setting of the original game and we have responded to their request to revisit the Western Front,” said Greg Wilson, Executive Producer at Relic Entertainment. “By offering Western Front focused content to Company of Heroes 2, we are giving players a brand new set of tactical options that significantly expand their multiplayer experience. At the same time, it has never been easier for new players to get access to our vast multiplayer community. “
