The man in charge of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, says that the company's upcoming console will not be cheap. "This is not going to be cheap," he said in an interview with the London Evening Standard. Iwata says that the price of the device is expected to exceed 20,000 yen (~$250 US).
Iwata acknowledged that the company's presentation at E3 2011 left viewers confused, by leading them to believe that the new console consisted entirely of its controller.
"Because we put so much emphasis on the controller, there appeared to be some misunderstandings. We should have made more effort to explain how it works," he said.
"We haven't made any kind of blunder, but I should have shown a single picture of the new console, then started talking about the controller. The console is not drastically different, and Wii U is about the controller. The console itself will be almost invisible."
When it is released sometime next year, the Nintendo Wii U is expected to compete with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and the Sony PlayStation 3.
