DayZ Standalone creator Dean Hall has confirmed on Twitter that Bohemia Interactive have identified the source of the game's desync problem are currently working on a hotfix to resolve the issue as well as the game's "crippling lag".
Hall, who announced last month that he is to resign from Bohemia in order to establish a studio in his native New Zealand, commented:
Source of crippling lag and desync issues appears to have been found. We are preparing a hotfix for test now. Will report soon #DayZDaily

Hopefully fixes for more bugs will be found soon but in the meantime we've got a guide for DayZ Standalone players and an introduction for beginners. The DayZ alpha sold one million copies in its first month. Originally, DayZ was a mod for Bohemia's hardcore military sim Arma 2 but after its massive success Hall was recruited by Bohemia to oversee the Standalone version.
DayZ Standalone arrived on Steam Early Access on December 16th for $29.99.
