343 Industries has "a great plan in place" for the Halo series at E3 in June according to Microsoft Game Studios' president Phil Spencer.
Responding to a fan on Twitter, Spencer commented, "Halo news will be coming at E3. 343i has a great plan in place, will be cool to share with everyone."
There has been speculation in recent months that Microsoft intends to release Halo 2: Anniversary this year rather than Halo 5, which was announced at E3 in 2013.
Halo 2: Anniversary is said to include an invitation to Halo 5's beta. Spencer has previously stated, "[I] Never get tired of questions on what's coming. Just can't always answer as we need news at events. Halo 2 is a good game…"
Master Chief's voice actor, Steve Downes, recently appeared to confirm the rumours regarding the next Halo title:
“I think you may be ahead of yourself on Halo 5. I wouldn’t expect anything until 2015. What you can look forward to this year is an anniversary edition of Halo 2.”
In a later statement, he denied confirming Halo 2: Anniversary saying:
"It sounds like I was 'confirming' [an] H2A edition, which I most certainly was not. I'm in no position to do that as I have no knowledge of it. I was only mentioning what I had seen on line about it."
Microsoft has refused to confirm which entry in the series will be released in 2014 beyond stating that the next Halo "journey" will begin this year on Xbox One.
