11 Bit Studios have revealed that their tower defense / tower offense game hybrid, Anomaly 2, is coming to the Playstation 4 in spring 2014, with full online multiplayer coming with it.
The original game it is coming off of, Anomaly: Warzone Earth, is described by its developers as a tower offense game. The way this works is instead of setting up defenses around a base to protect, you are working with troops attacking the base. As in a tower defense game, you do not have direct control of your troops. Instead, you direct what paths they go to, purchase more troops to deploy, and drop power ups and smoke screens to help your side.
Anomaly 2 promises an amalgamation of original tower defense gameplay in a new multiplayer experience. Choose to play as the humans or aliens to do offense or defense.
11 Bit is bringing in even more elements to Anomaly 2. Now, you can update your troops into war mechs, with each troop having individual mech forms and abilities. Update options have also been expanded, such that there are over a million tactical combinations possible. The single player campaign has been made a more difficult experience, with multiple endings. Finally, and of course, the upgrade to HD means they had to adjust with an improved visual engine.
Anomaly 2 is available now for Macintosh, Android, iOS, Blackberry, Steam, and DRM-free via Humble. You can watch a teaser trailer below.
