UPDATE: Both Downes and Microsoft have contacted GameZone to insist that there has been no official confirmation of Halo 2: Anniversary and that they have nothing to share about the possibility of the game being in development at this time.
Downes commented:
"It sounds like I was 'confirming' [an] H2A edition, which I most certainly was not. I'm in no position to do that as I have no knowledge of it. I was only mentioning what I had seen on line about it."
Despite this, GameZone insists that its original transcription of the interview with Downes is accurate. Microsoft, for its part, said: "We can confirm your next “Halo” journey will begin in 2014, but beyond that we don’t have any details to share at this time.”
ORIGINAL STORY: Master Chief's voice actor, Steve Downes, has told GameZone that Halo 5 is likely to be released in 2015 with Halo 2: Anniversary set for later this year.
Downes commented:
“I think you may be ahead of yourself on Halo 5. I wouldn’t expect anything until 2015. What you can look forward to this year is an anniversary edition of Halo 2.”
According to rumours, Halo 2: Anniversary will launch on November 11th. A Microsoft statement regarding the speculation, issued earlier this month, refused to clarify which game is in development for release this year. The company's spokesperson said:
"Other than confirming that your Halo journey on Xbox One begins in 2014, we have made no announcements related to specific titles."
Microsoft Game Studios' president Phil Spencer recently noted:
"Never get tired of questions on what's coming. Just can't always answer as we need news at events. Halo 2 is a good game…"
Last year, Spencer said that Microsoft was "discussing" the possibility of Halo 2: Anniversary. The game was originally released 10 years ago.
Downes did not provide any details on the game such as the developer or whether the title is targeted at Xbox 360 or Xbox One.
