Chucklefish Limited has released the latest change logs for procedurally generated side-scroller Starbound, revealing huge balance changes with the latest patch.
The premise behind Starbound is you are a space explorer landing on a particular habitable planet, and find yourself exploring landscapes that will never be the same on 2nd and 3rd playthroughs. Much of the game is fluid and customizable, including items, enemies, even the character you are playing, the class they have, and the race they come from.
The rebalancing changes everything of those customizable options, including weapons, armor, creatures, items. Even the leveling system has been changed, all for the purpose of improving overall playability.
Other changes include early implementation of creature taming, a new galaxy sector with a new boss, a new stance system, allowing you to use weapons with secondary attacks, a pixel compressor, and tons of new things added in, as well as minor behavior tweaks. We’ll run those down below:
New things:
· Grappling hook
· Mining items
· Weapons
· Throwable items
· Sounds
· Baby monsters
· Monster palettes
· Hats
Behavior tweaks:
· More common underground detached and rare biomes
· More common underground random encounters
· More common underground chests
· Beamaxes disabled from lighting underground caves
· Monsters now graze on the grass
· Bipeds now socialize
· Monsters are generally smarter and less likely to get stuck
There are even more small changes not indicated here. Playstation fans may want to take interest in these changes as well, since these are essentially improvements leading to the game’s eventual release on Vita, Playstation 3 and Playstation 4, on a yet to be announced date in the future.
