Today, we look at the Remington R5 assault rifle in Call of Duty Ghosts.
The R5 can do as much as 49 damage max, dipping to as low as 20 at longer ranges. It takes 3 to 5 shots to kill, making it middle of the road in its class, except if we’re talking close range, where it is as powerful as an AK or MSBS. Each headshot will give you 1.4x damage.
The R5 has the longest range of any assault rifle. It can kill with 3 shots as far as 44 meters, comparable to a SMG. With a muzzle brake, that extends to 53 meters, almost half of many maps, and with a silencer, the drop is only down to 33 meters.
The R5’s rate of fire is 631 RPM, making it the slowest assault rifle, and a slower gun than most. This gives the gun mixed effectiveness. While it outputs its most damage up close, it’s also at its slowest there. It becomes more competitive to other guns at medium to long range, but at its farthest it again has the slowest ROF.
Thankfully, its recoil is moderate. In fact it has the 3rd lowest recoil of any assault rifle. The accuracy on this gun is above average. It also has average ADS time at 0.3 seconds, but it also reloads a bit faster than most. It can do empty reloads in 2.83 seconds, full reloads in 2.63 seconds, and reload cancels in 1.6 seconds.
Muddling up the works again for the R5 is magazine size. It has 24 round capacity, and only goes up to 36 rounds with extended magazines. In practice, this makes it hard to conserve ammo.
Iron sights aren’t terrible for the R5, but you can get tangible benefits using long range optics such as the ACOG, VMR, ECT, etc.
As explained before, the R5 has setbacks at close and long range, so it is at its best at medium range combat. It actually outclasses the AK12 in this regard. With the low magazine size, this gun is best suited for precision players.
We won’t go through the class builds here, but if you want to get recommendations you can catch them in the source video below.
