Grand Theft Auto V Named The Biggest Selling Video Game Within The Decade

Jan 17, 2020 Dennis Patrick

GTA V takes first place in the United States.

We are now in 2020 and with the last decade officially wrapped, it’s interesting to look back and see just where video game titles to land in terms of popularity and sales. While you’ve undoubtedly seen several lists and forum posts about personal lists of the best games that launched in the past decade, there is a clear winner that takes first place in terms of the best-selling video game title in the United States.

Rockstar Games is a well-known video game development studio and arguably their biggest video game franchise is Grand Theft Auto and it was this past decade that we got the launch of its fifth mainline installment, Grand Theft Auto V. The game brought in a big open world, new detailed animations, character interactions, a storyline and for the first time in the franchise, a title that focused on multiple protagonists. As a result, there were plenty of eager gamers out there that picked up a copy as soon as the title launched.

But what happened shortly afterward was another release of the video game that ended up on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms. Add in the fact that the game also included an online multiplayer component that’s still being supported years later with new content and an active player base, the 2013 Grand Theft Auto V release is one title that will go down in history.

Now a report from the Nielsen’s NPD Group has confirmed that Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V video game title was the best-selling title of the past decade in the United States. It’s certainly one that will be quite active until Rockstar Games finally announces a Grand Theft Auto VI title. In the meantime, if you have yet to experience Grand Theft Auto V then you’ll be delighted to know that the game is available and supported right now for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms.
