In a Twitter image post, Hideo Kojima confirmed that you will be able to use custom soundtracks while playing Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes.
I installed my favorite OST of "Pacific Rim" in the walkman that "GZ Snake" has and played the game with this song. pic.twitter.com/0wRdnZsevO

Kojima’s tweet is pretty straightforward about it. He says that he installed the Pacific Rim soundtrack, which he says is his favorite, into Snake’s Walkman, and played the game with the song.
Before you start wondering if this is exclusive to Sony, the image clearly shows Xbox 360 in the menu, so Kojima showed this off on a Microsoft console. Presuming we are dealing with the same translation issues that plagued Kojima last time too, he may not be referring to literally placing a Walkman into the game, but using Walkman as slang to refer to giving Snake a music player in general.

In a later tweet, Kojima shared his current work setup for Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes. The monitor is a Sharp Aquos, and he has both a Playstation 3 and an Xbox 360 hooked up to it. He also has a headset to go with the Pacific Rim disc, as well as a tablet, router, and check sheet. Not much interesting to share here, just a reassurance that he is simultaneously developing the game for both Sony’s and Microsoft’s consoles.
No word if the game will also accept digital formats, such as MP3s, AIFFs, OGGs and so forth, and I really would not see why not, but Kojima may not be looking into what he will be allowed to do yet. Will having to use CDs for custom soundtracks be a dealbreaker for you?
