At their CES Keynote, Microsoft announced that a new service, Game Room, will be coming to Xbox 360 and Windows-based PCs, this coming spring(Mar-May, 2010). The Game Room which can be downloaded through Xbox Live, free-of-cost, allows gamers to relive their classic arcade memories in a new virtual world, where gamers take control of their Avatars and play their favorite classic arcade games in their own personal arcade room. Unlike traditional Xbox Live Arcade games, you’ll actually be able to walk around game room that contains art and sounds from the original arcade cabinets for each game you purchase. Not only can you play games yourself but you can also invite your friends to your game room, although it is not clear as to whether they will be able to play the full game or a demo version.
The service will be launching with 30 classic titles, and will expand to 1000 arcade originals in a few years time, releasing seven new titles each week. Each game will cost you 240 MS points($3.00) if bought for one platform or 400 MS points($5.00) for both the platforms.
