Dead Rising 3, the third open-world zombie thriller from Capcom, isn’t an ugly game. Well, it’s filled with dead and rotting corpses that would like to crew on the living whenever possible, but the actual presentation of the game is quite impressive. However, producer Mike Jones knows that his project just can’t compete with the likes of Ryse: Son of Rome and Forza 5, and he does feel just a bit envious.
"We have graphics envy!" Jones told OXM in a recent interivew. "We go home and cry ourselves to sleep that we don't have rendering as pretty as Ryse and Forza. We sit there and look at it all day, right, all the reflective surfaces and the other nice stuff.”
So maybe he’s being a bit sarcastic, but Jones continues by discussing how it’s not always about competing with the games around you.
"All the artists have been loving the fact that they can put deferred lighting in, they can put reflective textures in there, mess with all this stuff. Give everything shadows! Which makes this game – when you put DR2 and DR3 side by side, all we're trying to do is be the best-looking Dead Rising game we can,” he said. “Obviously we can't compete with Ryse, we can't compete with Forza in terms of sheer visuals, but we do want to compete against ourselves."
Look for Dead Rising 3, as well as the other two games that it just can’t compete with, on the Xbox One at launch.
