Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura has plenty to say about the hotly anticipated third entry that was announced at this year’s E3. A new trailer was posted earlier this week that fed fans the gameplay they’ve been looking for, but a 'Conversations with Creators' video posted on PlayStation’s Japanese YouTube channel is the real piece of Kingdom Hearts 3 content of the week. The interview might be in Japanese, but Twitter user @sqexgal was nice enough to translate the text (via KH13) and do a summary of the information.
In the interview, Nomura reiterates that this will be the end of the Dark Seeker saga, as well as the height of the series when it comes to action. Kingdom Hearts 3 will include new challenges, upgraded movement for protagonist Sora, and environments that might crumble as you scale them. The systems will still feel similar to the first two games, but the power of next-gen hardware will help push every feature over the edge. The AI will be sharper, with Donald and Goofy’s personalities reflected through their actions, and somehow, Nomura wants to see a photorealistic representation of the game. The tone of the Disney worlds will still come through, but this will be the best looking title in the series by leaps and bounds.
He wouldn’t commit to what features of the DualShock 4 will make an appearance in Kingdom Hearts 3. Nomura explained that the Final Fantasy 15 team is much deeper into development than he is, so many of these decisions won’t occur until a later time. This is the same case with tablet and Vita functionality. Nomura actually (jokingly) called the PS4 overkill, indicating that the power of the console is well beyond anything he’s worked with.
That’s all for now, but you can expect to hear more about Kingdom Hearts 3 in the coming months.
