Infinite Crisis Expands Superhero Destruction

October 9, 2013 by Andrea Castellano

The Infinite Crisis uses the Catastrophic Event system to change player surroundings.

In an attempt to understand the power of a superhero icon, the team at Turbine developed the Catastrophic Event system for Infinite Crisis.

The Catastrophic Event system provides feedback for player actions by changing the environments around them. Destructible environments and object interaction show the player the results of their actions, but natural events also impact the surrounding area.

The highly impactful, yet predictable, natural occurrences changes the surroundings. A once effective passage way can cut off any movement with a giant rock blocking the way. Destructible environments can ultimately change the map's layout throughout the course of a match.

Turbine previously explored new characters such as the Arcane Green Lantern and Batman. Core to the MOBA genre, each character excels in a different area of combat, making a balanced team combination essential to success.

Players can sign up for the Infinite Crisis beta on the game's official website.
