The New Resident Evil Movie Will Feel Like Classic Resident Evil Games

August 19, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Director talks about the new movie adaptation.

Resident Evil fans have a few interesting prospects from the franchise coming out. Not only is there a new game that is expected to be revealed soon, but there is also a reboot to the movie franchise. Resident Evil recently had a film series not too long ago being handled by Paul W. S. Anderson which started back in 2002 and continued until it’s the last installment, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter released back in 2016. However, with that said there is another film series in the works under a new director, Johannes Roberts.

If you recall the earlier films, the production was mainly revolved around being more action-oriented which was pretty much in line with how the video game titles were at the time. Capcom had dodged the classic style of Resident Evil gameplay leaving some of the old school survival horror fans a bit bummed out. However, since Resident Evil 7 released the development studio went back to a more traditional survival horror gameplay focus. That seems to be the case for at least this first film and potentially sequels if there is enough attention to warrant them.

This new series according to the director speaking with Screen Rant, will be aimed at the game roots with more of a scary element throughout rather than action. However, we don’t know just what this means in terms of the narrative yet. As a result, we could see more exploration and puzzle-solving but for plenty of gamers out there, what made Resident Evil scary was the atmosphere that the developers put players in rather than relying on constant jump scares.

“We are in active development of that at the moment. I pitched them a take, and they really loved it. So, we are just gearing up on that as we speak, really. I’m in the office all the time there. So, yeah, it’s great. It’s gonna be super scary. It’s super, super scary. And it’s just getting back to the roots of the game. I think, at the moment, I’m not really allowed to say much more than that. But it’s gonna be a lot of fun.”

At the moment we don’t have any new details regarding when this film will be out or casting but we’ll, of course, update you on the latest as we hear them right here on Gameranx.
